The David Attenborough experience at the Natural History Museum will be extended to 30 August 2026 due to popular demand, bosses have announced.

Our Story with David Attenborough opened in June 2025 and was set to run until January. But now there’ll now be seven additional months to visit as it’s been revealed that 80,000 people have already experienced it. The museum expects that popularity to continue.

Created in collaboration with Sir David and the award-winning production team at Open Planet Studios, the exhibition is a 50-minute 360° light-and-sound spectacular that takes guests through the story of the human species over the past four billion years.

Our Story is the first time the Natural History Museum has ever hosted an experience like this. It’s a huge technical feat, as I found out when I went behind the scenes to discover just how the Natural History Museum crafted Attenborough’s immersive world. There’s 24 projectors that align over the gallery's four walls and floor, and 50 speakers too. And all inside a very historic stone-walled gallery.

Adam Farrar, Director of Commercial and Visitor Experience at the Natural History Museum said that “the Museum’s mission is to create advocates for the planet" and that they're "proud to say that in just five months since its opening, this incredible experience has greatly aided our cause in reaching over 80,000 people."

"Now playing through until the summer, I would encourage everyone to immerse themselves in this wonderous exploration into our relationship with planet Earth.”

When he first opened the experience — just after his 99th birthday — Sir David said his hope is that "visitors of all ages will experience our extraordinary journey...and come away feeling inspired, informed and most of all, empowered about their integral role in our world."

Our Story: the Original Soundtrack now available

Accompanying the experience is a soaring original score by Nick Powell who is a Tony Award and Olivier Award-nominated composer. To mark the exhibition’s extension, Powell’s soundtrack has now been released on streaming platforms for the first time so that Our Story fans can enjoy the evocative orchestral music at home.

Powell has said composing the score was "a great honour.”

"Rarely have I had the opportunity to write music for a project that so aligned with my passions" he said in a statement. "I wanted to write a score that stands in awe of the universe and nature" he said.
